“Our life is like the course of the sun.”

—Carl Jung

Second Life Academy

The Second Life Academy (SLA) is a hybrid platform offering a curriculum of ideas and collaborative experiences for adults seeking to rediscover purpose and meaning in the second half of life.

Mission

“Thoroughly unprepared we take the step into the afternoon of life.”
—Carl Jung

Inspired by Carl Jung’s observation that we lack preparation for the challenges and opportunities of midlife and beyond, the Second Life Academy offers individuals the tools they need to navigate this significant transition with intentionality. One-on-one and small group experiences draw on the ideas of Jung, Frankl, Emerson, and other sources of genuine wisdom from all cultures and eras.

Model

What youth found and must find outside, the man of life’s afternoon must find within himself.“
—Carl Jung

When the children are grown, careers begin to wind to their conclusion, familiar sources of engagement and even long-standing relationships unexpectedly change, new questions of purpose and meaning arise.

How did things turn out this way?

What should I do now?

Where am I needed?

Why am I still here?

Who am I, anyway?

By integrating education, experiential learning, creative expression, counseling, mentorship, and a wide variety of collaborative projects SLA offers adaptable methods for self-discovery and personal growth. Our innovative curriculum draws from diverse spiritual traditions, philosophical insights, and practical wisdom to guide individuals through the complexities of life transitions. With a focus on mental health and well-being, our supportive community offers a collaborative environment for individuals to explore their passions, address challenges, and embrace new opportunities.

Benefits

“A human being would certainly not grow to be seventy or eighty years old if this longevity had no meaning for the species to which he belongs.”
—Carl Jung

The meaning of our new longevity must be bound together with the cultivation, harvest, and sharing of this life enhancing resource. What wisdom have we acquired thus far  - how can we harvest it - and then how do we share it for the benefit of others? These questions are fundamental to SLA programs, designed to take advantage of the unique opportunities that emerge for personal growth and community engagement at midlife and beyond.

Individual and small group options are created to provide:

  • a place to talk about meaning

  • learn to value the turning points in life

  • join vital community of talented seekers

  • find collaboration and encouragement

  • integrate creative expression

  • increase balance and authenticity

  • contact deeper needs of the Self
